The Primary mission of the California Conference of Arson Investigators is the reduction of arson through the establishment of a professional organization which will:

    Fire K9 Memorial Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department

    DanaliLong time CCAI member Susan De Antonio remembers her partner Denali (“little D”). Denali was the third of three Fire K9’s that were in the fire K9 program at Rancho Cucamonga Fire.  He worked his first arson case on August 7, 2003 in Chino.  

    After a serious bacterial infection, that nearly killed him, he returned to duty.  The infection caused him to be paralyzed on the right side of his face and he lost his right ear due to complications from surgery.  He could no longer close his right eye.  This did not stop him.  He was certified by the National American work dog association with a 91.6% accuracy.  Denali also successfully passed annual certifications with the Canine Accelerant Detection Association.  He appeared in court with his partner Fire Investigator Susan De Antonio before juries.  

    The memorial was well attended by humans and K9s as well.  K9 Teams came from as far as San Diego and Fresno to attend the Memorial Services.  CCAI was well represented at the memorial.  Business Manager Tom Fee, Director Dale Feb and Director Troy Morrison were on hand to represent CCAI.

    California Fire Causes $1M in Damage to School Buses

    Jan. 07--A large fire in a southwest Fresno bus yard early Sunday caused $1 million in damage to school buses that are contracted to carry Fresno Unified School District special education students, the Fresno Fire Department said.

    Sixteen buses were heavily damaged in the fire and six others had minor damage, fire spokesman Keola Park said.

    The cause of the fire is under investigation, but early signs indicate that arson may not have been the cause, Park said.

    Fires claim more than 3,000 lives a year, injure more than 90,000 firefighters and civilians, and impose costs and losses totaling more than $300 billion—equivalent to about 2 percent of the nation's gross domestic product.

    Fire researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) believe that the devastating annual toll can be significantly reduced over the next two decades. Even better, they have a plan that prioritizes and details the research and other work needed to enable that goal.

    California Chapter of IAAI Training

    The California Chapter of IAAI held their semi- annual training conference at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo, California on October 29-31.  Fire investigators from all over the state of California as well as from Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Oklahoma came to train.
