Long time CCAI member Susan De Antonio remembers her partner Denali (“little D”). Denali was the third of three Fire K9’s that were in the fire K9 program at Rancho Cucamonga Fire. He worked his first arson case on August 7, 2003 in Chino.
After a serious bacterial infection, that nearly killed him, he returned to duty. The infection caused him to be paralyzed on the right side of his face and he lost his right ear due to complications from surgery. He could no longer close his right eye. This did not stop him. He was certified by the National American work dog association with a 91.6% accuracy. Denali also successfully passed annual certifications with the Canine Accelerant Detection Association. He appeared in court with his partner Fire Investigator Susan De Antonio before juries.
The memorial was well attended by humans and K9s as well. K9 Teams came from as far as San Diego and Fresno to attend the Memorial Services. CCAI was well represented at the memorial. Business Manager Tom Fee, Director Dale Feb and Director Troy Morrison were on hand to represent CCAI.
